Santa Ana's Gold in a Pirate Sea
In this fact-based novel, a Finalist in the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards contest, Maritime history professor Thayer Harris teams up with a retired Naval Intelligence operative to search the Caribbean for lost treasure.
They use authentic CIA "psychic spy" methods to search islands, shipwrecks and time. The prize is gold and silver hoarded by legendary Mexican dictator and Alamo villain General Santa Anna, who went into exile on the island of St. Thomas, then one of the Danish West Indies.
To find Santa Anna's gold, Dr. Harris explores 1860s Charlotte Amalie, the Danish colony's capital and then one of the world's busiest ports - and a stomping ground for Confederate sea raiders. To make headway, Professor Harris must make sense of a mysterious connection between the retired Mexican dictator and President Lincoln's Secretary of State. He also battles the 19th century's worst Caribbean hurricane as well as unscrupulous corporate treasure hunters and their murderous private security men.
This is the second Thayer Harris adventure. The first, Undocumented Visitors in a Pirate Sea, was a quarter-finalist in the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest.
